7.9.5 - How Wix & Squarespace Handle Multi-Currency (Difficulty: Advanced | Path: Scale)

Multi-Currency on Easy Mode

What is it?

Wix and Squarespace aim for simplicity. Both platforms have introduced native currency converters that can automatically show prices in your customer's local currency based on their location. Unlike WordPress, you usually don't need third-party plugins for this basic functionality.

Why is it important?

It reduces the technical barrier to entry. You can toggle a switch in your dashboard, and suddenly your store feels local to visitors from Tokyo to Toronto. However, you must understand the difference between display and transaction.

How to Set It Up:

  1. Wix: Go to Settings > General info. Scroll to 'Currency' and look for the currency converter toggle. Wix allows customers to browse in their currency, and with Wix Payments, they can often pay in it too.
  2. Squarespace: While Squarespace allows you to set a store currency, true multi-currency checkout often relies on connecting Stripe or PayPal. Check your 'Commerce' settings to see if your specific plan allows for automatic currency switching.

Common Misconception

Just because a customer sees Euros doesn't always mean they are charged in Euros. Always test your checkout flow. If the currency switches back to USD at the final payment step, you might see a drop in conversions (cart abandonment) due to the surprise change.
