1.4 - Product & Collection Management in Shopify (Difficulty: Beginner | Path: Launch)

Writing Titles & Descriptions That Sell

What is it?

This is the art of using words to persuade customers. Your title should be clear and searchable, while your description should connect emotionally and explain the value of your product.

Why is it important?

Great copy does more than just describe; it sells. It builds trust, answers questions before they're asked, and helps customers find you on search engines like Google.

How to Write Great Copy:

  1. Create a Clear, Keyword-Rich Title: Include what the product is and who it's for. Instead of 'Cool Shirt', use 'Men's Vintage Cotton Graphic Tee'.
  2. Focus on Benefits, Not Just Features: A feature is what a product has (e.g., '100% cotton'). A benefit is what it does for the customer (e.g., 'Stays soft and breathable all day long').
  3. Use Easy-to-Read Formatting: Use short paragraphs, bullet points, and bold text to break up the text and highlight key information.
  4. Use AI for Inspiration: On the product page, use the 'Generate text' feature (Shopify Magic) to get a starting draft. Provide it with keywords and a tone of voice, then edit the result to match your brand perfectly.

Beginner's Copywriting Tip:

Use the Problem-Agitate-Solution (PAS) formula. Start by stating a problem your customer has (e.g., 'Tired of workout leggings that slip down?'). Agitate the problem ('It's distracting and ruins your focus.'). Then, present your product as the solution ('Our high-waisted leggings feature a no-slip grip to stay in place...').
