1.4.2 - Creating and Managing Shopify Product Variants (Difficulty: Beginner | Path: Launch)

Adding Options like Size and Color

What is it?

If your product comes in different choices (like size or color), you need to add 'options'. Shopify then automatically creates all the possible combinations, which are called 'variants'.

Why is it important?

Instead of creating ten separate product pages for ten colors of the same shirt, variants group them all under a single, clean product page. This makes it much easier for customers to see all available choices and for you to manage the product.

How to Add Variants:

  1. On the product editing page, scroll down to the Options section.
  2. Check the box labeled 'This product has options, like size or color'.
  3. Enter the Option Name: Type the name of the first option (e.g., 'Size').
  4. Enter the Option Values: In the next box, enter the different choices, separated by a comma (e.g., `Small, Medium, Large, X-Large`).
  5. Add Another Option: Click 'Add another option' to add a second set of choices, like 'Color', with its values (e.g., `Black, Navy, White`).

As you add options, Shopify will automatically generate a list of all possible variants (e.g., 'Small / Black', 'Small / Navy', etc.) in the 'Variants' section below.
