1.1.4 - Critical Shopify Store Settings (Difficulty: Beginner | Path: Launch)

Defining Your Business's Core Information (Beginner)

What is it?

The 'Store Details' section is your business's official profile on Shopify. This information is used on invoices, email notifications, and helps set defaults across your store.

Why is it important?

Accuracy here is key for professionalism and legal compliance. It ensures your store's currency is correct, your customers can contact you, and your shipping calculations start from the right place. An incorrect time zone, for example, could launch a sale at the wrong time!

How to Configure It

  1. Navigate to Settings in the bottom-left corner.
  2. Click Store Details, the first option at the top.
  3. Fill it out completely:
    • Store Name & Legal Name: Your brand name and your registered business name.
    • Contact Information: A public-facing email and phone number for your customers.
    • Store Address: Your legal business address, which is required for tax and billing purposes.
    • Store Currency & Time Zone: Set the primary currency you sell in and your local time zone.

Pitfall to Avoid

The most common and costly mistake is choosing the wrong Store Currency. Once you make your first sale, changing the currency is a very complex process that requires Shopify Support. Double-check that you've selected the correct currency for your primary market before you launch.
